HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 14 (ACN) The World Governments Summit came to an end in the United Arab Emirates with a call to increasingly promote international cooperation and support innovative and sustainable governance.
During the three-day event, the Cuban delegation headed by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz fulfilled a busy work agenda that included debates and high-level meetings with representatives of various nations.
In his speech to the audience, Marrero Cruz stressed the importance of a new and more just, democratic and equitable international order to ensure decent living standards for current and future generations.
"Cuba's participation was very important, as it made it possible to establish cooperation with a view to the prosperous future we hope to achieve,” said Nancy Acosta, an official with the Cuban Council of Ministers.
On his end, Armando Rodríguez, deputy minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, referred to the conference as an opportunity to learn together about how to cope with national and territorial challenges using science and the ICTs.
"The Cuban innovation system is inclusive and engages all actors, including universities and research centers, companies, scientific societies and social organizations,” he remarked. “Cuba’s main post-Summit principles encompass the role of the Government in the development of peoples and, therefore, the use of science and expert knowledge to implement public policies.”
Under the theme of “Shaping future governments”, the World Governments Summit gathered 120 governmental delegations, 85 international organizations and some 4,000 experts to address global development challenges and promote cooperation among States and societies.
