HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 28 (ACN) On the 171st anniversary of José Martí’s birth and despite some people’s hatred, a large international caravan against the U.S. blockade stretched out from Miami to more than 20 cities around the world, including Santa Cruz and La Paz (Bolivia) and Toronto and Vancouver (Canada), according to activist Carlos Lazo.
In Miami, Alianza Martiana and Bridges of Love gathered dozens to honor the Apostle and remind President Joe Biden that they are still waiting for him to keep the promises he made in 2020 to change Donald Trump’s hostile Cuba policies.
Supporters drove around Miami shouting "Down with the blockade", "Long live Bridges of Love" and "Long live Martí" while carrying signs that read "Remove Cuba from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism" and "Cuba is love", among other slogans.
This type of initiative has been going on for more than two years every last weekend of every month.
The day before, representatives of CodePink and Bridges of Love traveled to Havana with donations for the Cuban public health sector that included 1,000 pounds of powdered milk for a children’s hospital and more than 71,000 pancreatin tablets for patients suffering from cystic fibrosis.
“Until the blockade is lifted, let's poke many holes in that wall," the Seattle-based Cuban-American professor remarked. “In 1892, the Apostle wrote that mankind is composed of two sorts of men: those who love and create, and those who hate and destroy, and that’s a maxim we always live by”.
