HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, today sent a hug to the Landless Rural Workers' Movement of Brazil (MST), on the 40th anniversary of its founding.
When we talk about dignity and resistance, we will always have to mention our brothers of the MST, the president stated on X.
In his message, Diaz-Canel thanked the members of this Brazilian rural social movement for their constant solidarity with Cuba.
Last December, through the same social network, the Cuban President praised the preparation of the celebrations for this new birthday of the MST, which were held at the Martin Luther King Center, in Havana.
This organization was born in the first National Meeting of Landless Rural Workers, an event held from January 20 to 22, 1984 in the city of Cascavel, in the State of Parana, with the participation of 80 workers from 13 States.
The MST was created as a reflection of the territorial and social inequalities of the Brazilian State and its structural agrarian question, and its main banner was the demand for popular agrarian reform; it currently groups around 350,000 families in its ranks.
