HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) The 30th Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic, commercial, financial, cooperation and scientific-technical relations between Cuba and China concluded today with the signing of important agreements, confirming the willingness of both parties to continue boosting relations.
Co-chaired by Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Cuban deputy prime minister and head of foreign trade and investment, and Wang Wentao, minister of commerce of the People's Republic of China, the session allowed expanding bilateral cooperation in prioritized sectors of mutual interest, such as biotechnology, renewable energy sources, food production, tourism, info communications, the sugar industry, transportation and trade, among others, the foreign ministry reported on its website.
Cuban deputy PM highlighted the relevance of this session for the promotion and implementation of the aforementioned presidential agreements between Cuba and China, which were renewed during the official bilateral meeting between Presidents Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez and Xi Jinping, in August 2023, on the occasion of the 15th BRICS Summit, held in Johannesburg.
Chinese side highlighted the special character of bilateral ties, while expressing its willingness to continue working together with Cuba to strengthen existing cooperation and enhance trade and business in priority sectors and high impact.
During the meeting, they exchanged on the impact of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade and unilateral sanctions; climate change; the pandemic; and the convulsive international situation.
They agreed that cooperation in biotechnology is a symbol of bilateral relations and constitutes a reference of the potential to continue expanding them in this and other sectors.
The plenary session was preceded by meetings with senior executives of important governmental, banking and financial institutions and companies, as well as visits to economic targets such as Biotech Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL) and its subsidiary in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province; and the headquarters of the e-commerce platform JD.com.
