Artemisa, Jan 24 (ACN) Workers and directives with the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, which has hosted thousands of solidarity-with-Cuba activists from around the world, marked its 50th anniversary of its setting up in 1972 on the initiative of Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro.
During the ceremony marking the date, Camp vice-director Junet Martinez recalled the first brigade to come to the facility made up of young people from 28 countries of the world.
On the occasion, Danish activist Inge Hogh was decorated with the Friendship Medal during the ceremony which was attended by Gladys Martinez, Communist Party leader in Artemisa province.
“I’m tied to Cuba through my admiration for the Revolution, for the Cuban people, for the history of their struggle and resistance against the US blockade and hostility,” said Hog.
The president of the Cuban Friendship Institute Fernando Gonzalez, Hero of the Republic of Cuba, said it is an honor that the camp has received over 102 thousand activists from all continents motivated by solidarity and internationalism.
The camp reopened doors in January 2022 after two years of inactivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fifth Antenor Firmin Haitian Brigade of Foreign Relations students was recently hosted by the camp.
