HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 7 (ACN) Cuba reiterated today its firm will to preserve CELAC as a genuine Latin American and Caribbean mechanism for political coordination.
Due to its importance, the Cuban News Agency transmits below the speech made by Cuban foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, at the 22nd Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
H.E. Mr. Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States;
H.E. Mr. Santiago Andres Cafiero, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Republic of Argentina;
Dear Foreign Ministers, Heads of Delegations, National Coordinators and guests, friends:
We are pleased to meet, in this beautiful city of Buenos Aires, to celebrate the transfer of the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC to the Republic of Argentina, to which we wish the greatest success and assure Cuba's support in the important work of continuing strengthening the "unity in diversity" of Our Bolivarian and Marti's America.
We express our support and solidarity to the Republic of Argentina in its just claim to the International Monetary Fund for the solution of the fraudulent and illegal inherited debt that burdens its people.
We reaffirm Cuba's support for Argentinian sovereignty over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.
We wish to acknowledge the commendable efforts made by fraternal Mexico, during these almost two years of Pro Tempore Presidency, to revitalize the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and maintain its activism, in the midst of the multiple challenges generated by the pandemic.
The successful holding of the 6th Summit of Heads of State and Government, which President Miguel Diaz-Canel had the honor of attending, the conclusion of the reflection process and the timely initiatives to move towards regional recovery, are just some examples that confirm the laudable results achieved during this stage, which will contribute to enrich the heritage of our Community.
Dear colleagues:
We reiterate our firm will to preserve CELAC as a genuinely Latin American and Caribbean mechanism for political coordination. We ratify our unwavering commitment to regional integration and the full validity of the postulates of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace. In view of the complex international and hemispheric scenario we are facing, it is essential to have a united and supportive region that can defend, with a single voice, its interests of peace, independence, sovereign equality, sustainable development and social justice.
Thank you very much
