HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 2 (ACN) The Augusto César Sandino merchant ship left this Monday for Cuba, with solidarity aid from the Nicaraguan government to face the health emergency and the impact of the intensification of the measures imposed by the United States against the largest of the Antilles.
The vessel left the northern port of Arlen Siu and is carrying Nicaraguan food for the Cuban people, in compliance with an orientation of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity headed by Daniel Ortega, publishes the Cuban Foreign Ministry website Cubaminrex.
"This gesture of the Nicaraguan people and government carries a message of solidarity and endearing love," said in this regard the ambassador of the government of Havana in Managua, Juan Carlos Hernandez.
The diplomat valued this initiative of the Sandinista government, which also commemorates the 42nd anniversary of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on July 25, 1979.
As an example of the solidarity aid received by the Caribbean nation from different countries, last July 31, a donation from Mexico arrived at José Martí International Airport, in this capital, with about 11 tons (t) of medical supplies and consumables destined to the National Health System in Cuba for the fight against COVID-19.
Also this Sunday, health collaborators, friends of solidarity from Jamaica and Cuban residents in that country sent a first batch of donations with syringes, needles, masks, cannulas and disinfectants necessary for the fight against the pandemic in Santiago de Cuba.
In recent weeks, the governments of Venezuela, Russia, Bolivia, Nicaragua, China and Vietnam sent food, medicines and other essential supplies to Cuba to overcome the health crisis.
Likewise, institutions, associations and civil society groups in Canada, the United States and Spain made decisive contributions to continue the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign carried out by the Antillean country.
