HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 29 (ACN) Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla highlighted today on Twitter the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, particularly in the international health systems.
Nearly four billion people had no protection or social assistance at the beginning of the pandemic, said the foreign minister in the message published on that social media account.
Rodriguez Parrilla pointed out that during the world health crisis of COVID-19, it was demonstrated the need to increase state investment in health and universal and free access to basic services in order to save millions of lives.
According to a report by the Pan American Health Organization, the pandemic showed the regional countries' health systems to have significant weaknesses, as they are underfinanced, segmented and fragmented with challenges to improve coverage and access for all to comprehensive and quality services.
The World Health Organization warns that the COVID-19 crisis demonstrated that it is essential to eliminate or considerably mitigate the barriers to access to medical care, particularly the economic ones, so it is necessary to ensure free diagnosis and treatment of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and its comorbidities.
