HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 29 (ACN) British academic Helen Colley formally nominated Cuba´s Henry Reeve Internationalist Contingent as a candidate for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
In her speech, Colley highlighted the solidarity and humanistic work of Cuban health professionals, who “have shown an inspiring commitment to save lives around the world, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Cubaminrex website published.
In addition, she recalled how even developed European countries have requested and received help from the Cuban doctors, who worked in Andorra and Italy, as well as in several British overseas territories, including Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, Virgin Islands and Montserrat.
The academic also referred to the work of the members of the Contingent after the earthquake that affected Pakistan in 2005, whose "mission presented extremely inhospitable conditions for them, who had to work on the icy and snowy slopes of the Himalayas."
"The extraordinary success of Cuban medicine and the international solidarity of its health workers show that another world is possible by putting people before profit," concluded the outstanding international leader in the field of professional education.
Helen Colley joins with her proposal the more than 5,700 personalities, academics and intellectuals of the world who have signed the Open Letter that supports the nomination of the Cuban Henry Reeve Contingent for this award.
