Cuban Journalists Association hosts its National Softball Tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 11 (ACN) Journalists and media workers are ready today to take part in their 22nd Jorge Luis Valdes Rionda "in memoriam" National Softball Tournament, to be held in the western province of Matanzas from the 17th to the 21st this month.

This is one of the most important and far-reaching social events of the Cuban Journalists Association, said the president of that organization, Ricardo Ronquillo, at the flag-bearing ceremony of the National Media team, winner of the crown in the last nine editions.

The tournament also counts on the participation of the reigning runner-up Holguin and the teams from Camaguey, Ciego de Avila, Isle of Youth, Santiago de Cuba, Vaqueros (Artemisa and Mayabeque) and the hosts from Matanzas.

We in our organization have a word that defines us: unity, and if there is an event that helps to unite the country's professionals, to share and fraternize, it is the softball league, the top leader of Cuban journalists added.

According to the competition schedule, there will be a round-robin qualifying round and the four finalists will be decided by the "page system".

The head of the league and director of the National Media team, Annel Martinez, declared that the host province, in order to maintain this sports-recreational movement, has had to make a great effort in the midst of the country's economic situation, but he is convinced that it will be a party for all the journalist-softball players.
