HAVANA, Cuba, May 25 (ACN) Some of the Cuban favorites taking part in the World Chess Cup Qualifying Tournament achieved initial victories in the second round matches without difficulties, and this Tuesday they will only need a draw to be included among the semifinalists in their groups.
Isan Ortiz defeated Brazil's Cesar Umetsubo, while Yusnel Bacallao beat Ecuador's Daniel Mieles, Yuri Gonzalez beat Colombia's Jenny Chirivi and Luis Ernesto beat Barbadian Justin Blackman.
Omar Almeida won against Leonardo Valdes of Costa Rica, Luis Lazaro Aguero against Colombian Cinthya Munoz and Arnaldo Fernandez against his compatriot Lennis Martinez.
The predictions that Ernesto Fernandez, Luis Manuel Perez and Dylan Berdayes would face more complicated challenges were confirmed, as they were drawn against Leandro Krysa of Argentina, Varuzhan Akobian of the United States and Ivan Morovic of Chile, in that order.
