Cuban scientists Promote Responsible Technology Use for Children

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Apr 18 (ACN) Scientists in the educational sector are promoting responsible technology use in schools and homes by sharing research on technologies serving the comprehensive development of early childhood.

Isabel Ríos, head of the Early Childhood and Screens project at the Central Institute of Pedagogical Sciences, told ACN that the goal is to showcase advancements in education and literacy for teachers and families.

She noted that the COVID-19 pandemic weakened engagement with academics in central and eastern Cuba, making the scientific outreach in Santiago—a hub of pedagogical excellence—particularly impactful.

Since 2021, two successful projects have addressed indiscriminate screen use by young children, building a theoretical-methodological framework to counter the issue.

Ríos stressed the urgency of sharing findings due to the pervasive presence of mobile devices and other technologies in society, aligning with the Ministry of Education’s strategies.

She emphasized nationwide training initiatives to educate teachers, families, content producers, and providers, as the issue extends beyond schools.

Developing home-based materials that foster children’s potential is crucial in countering cultural colonization and defending children’s rights from birth.
