HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 31 (ACN) Although a discreet decrease in COVID-19 cases in Cuba has been noted in recent days, this decline will not be steep, said today Dr. Francisco Duran Garcia, national director of epidemiology of the ministry of public health ( MINSAP by its Spanish acronym).
During his daily television presentation, the expert explained that due to the still high number of cases of COVID-19 in the country, and the circulation of genetic variants such as Delta, with a high level of contagiousness, infections will sometimes decrease, but may increase in certain territories.
With 7,626 medical discharges granted during the day, 91 more than the number of diagnosed cases, the number of active cases decreased slightly during the day.
Regarding the provinces with the highest number of infections, the specialist said that Pinar del Rio, with 834, Havana, with 761, Villa Clara, with 530, Holguin, with 502, and Cienfuegos, with 485, are the most affected in this indicator.
The national epidemiology director alerted about the high number of infections in the pediatric age group, with 1,540 cases on Monday (24.3 %) of those diagnosed during the day.
He specified that of this figure, 133 patients are under one year old and 73 are under six months old.
According to the MINSAP report, in 30 days of August, 258,512 patients have been confirmed with COVID-19, and 2,458 have died due to complications associated with the disease.
