HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Jun 17 (ACN) The province of Holguin is getting ready for a health intervention targeted on at-risk populations and groups, namely more than 500,000 residents, as part of the scheduled administration of the Cuban anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates.
Designed to cover people over 60 and the 40 to 59 age group with the candidates Abdala and Soberana 02, respectively, the process is expected to begin in the second half of the month in medical offices.
Dr. Luis Orlando Castro, deputy general director of the Provincial Public Health Division, told ACN that this process is now going through the phase of certification of clinical sites and vaccination points, with full attention to the strict protocols established by regulatory entities such as the Center for the Control of Medicines (CECMED).
As part of the intervention, ethics committees have also been established at different levels to make sure that only those who volunteer will receive the vaccine and guarantee the observance of the values of solidarity and humanism that characterize the training of Cuban doctors, the director pointed out.
“Over 3,000 health professionals, including doctors, nurses and stomatologists, have been trained in the province to participate in the process, based on parameters such as the inoculation of the immunogen, the treatment of adverse effects, and the hygiene and epidemiology procedures required for the success of the health intervention.
Local mass organizations are also engaged in the program through the provision of towels and face masks and other organizational tasks.
Cuba has five vaccine candidates in different phases of the process of approval as vaccines. More than three million doses have already been administered in several provinces.
This health intervention will contribute to reduce the number of cases and deaths and tackle the spread rate.
