CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Oct 11 (acn) The presence of lemon, orange and grapefruit in markets of Cienfuegos province is a gauge of the gradual recovery of the citrus crops after being affected by disease and lack of resources in recent years.
Arnaldo Perez Morales, director of CITRISUR Company, at the municipality of Cumanayagua, told ACN that those harvested volumes are distributed to the population and to the mini-industry for processing the juice.
He said that citrus will increase from October, optimum stage of fruit ripening, to close the year with a collection of three thousand tons.
Since 2007, the areas of the company were affected by the Huanglongbin plague, which caused an 80 percent production reduction.
Perez Morales added that in addition to the vitality of these plantations, the entity recovers a line very depressed such as tangerine.
This entity was founded in 1966 and in these 50 years it had 1 898 citric hectares between 1971 and 1973 and reached one of its greatest volumes with 33 000 tons at the beginning of the 90s of the last century.
