
HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 13 (ACN) Cuba's Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security Plan and Law is a multidisciplinary, multifactorial and intersectoral process that reaches communities through popular education methodologies focused on local food systems, UN expert said.
Jerome Faure, coordinator of the support program of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the European Union, also referred to the need to strengthen capacities at the local level and structure the work of governments, university centers and their municipal and provincial commissions.
Faure spoke at a meeting on the results of the FAO-European Union Program, entitled Impact, resilience, sustainability and transformation for food and nutritional security, which accompanied the Cuban government in the formulation of its Plan and the new legal standard.
The event was attended by Carolina Santrich Badal, European Union cooperation attaché in Cuba; researchers from the Center for Youth Studies; professors from municipal university institutions and other promoters of the above-mentioned initiative. .
Maricela Diaz Rodriguez, member of the Advisory Group of the National Commission for Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security, thanked the international technical assistance in its formulation and implementation.
She presented the projections for 2023 with a marked interest in carrying out diagnoses with a nutritional approach, the preparation of municipal and provincial plans, the follow-up on the issues of food losses and waste, the design of indicators and the corresponding information system.
The Law of Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security was approved last May, in an extraordinary session of the National Assembly of People's Power.
