Cuba: US Blockade has Cost over Three Billion Dollars in Seven Months

Havana, Oct 19 (ACN) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez presented on Wednesday the report “Necessity to End the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” which will be submitted to the UN General Assembly in November.

In a press conference at the building of the Foreign Ministry in Havana, the minister said that from August 2021 to February 2022—the period of time covered by the report—the US blockade inflicted on the island losses calculated at over 3.8 billion dollars, a record figure for only seven months.

Cuba’s GDP could have grown some 4.5 percent in the cited period if the blockade were not there, said the minister, who noted that the accumulated damage by the US’s hostile Cuba policy over six decades has gone up to more than 154 billion dollars, which if translated into the value of gold at the world market would imply damages at over one trillion 391 billion dollars.

The US blockade is the main element which defines the US policy towards Cuba, which was strengthened under former US President Donald Trump and which is still unchanged under the Joe Biden administration, said Rodriguez.
Cuba will submit its resolution on the necessity to end the US blockade to the United Nations General Assembly on November 2nd and 3rd.

In 2021, the Cuba-sponsored resolution was voted by the UN General Assembly with 184 votes in favor. The project has been overwhelmingly backed by the international community since 1992.taiwebs.com
