
Havana, April 5 (ACN) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero called on Tuesday for the strengthening and increase of production capacities in the island’s industries in order to meet the needs of the people.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Industries, also attended by Revolution Commander Ramiro Valdes, the premier stressed the important role of the manufacture of first-necessity items and products to face current inflationary prices at the informal market.
Minister of Industries Eloy Alvarez said that this year’s priorities include the production of spare parts with the setting up of a plant in central Villa Clara province and the development of the socialist state enterprises.
The official added that his sector looks forwards to expanding e-commerce, the recycling and the packaging industries.
The metal industry reported on the repairs of engines and equipment to back the production of construction materials, as well as high-tension towers. The Light Industry focused on priorities that include increasing the production of toilet items, shoes and clothes and replace raw materials for its packaging work. While the Chemical industry will guarantee the setting up and operations of a medical oxygen plant in the eastern province of Granma, according to the meeting.
Meanwhile the Electronic Industry expects to increase the production of TV sets, induction cookers, TV decoders as well as promote the use of renewable energy sources in the industries and the residential sector through solar panels.
In his closing statements, the Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts and work of the workers with the Ministry of Industry who faced daily limitations and lack of raw material, parts and other resources.
