VILLA CLARA, Cuba, Jun 21 (ACN) The Base Business Unit (UEB by its Spanish acronym) Chiquitico Fabregat Derivatives, promotes the processing of sugarcane by-products as an effective part of the local strategy to achieve food sovereignty in the region.
After finishing the harvest period last May, the manufacturing management diversifies and reaches almost 60 % of the fulfillment of the annual plan through the sugar glucose refinery, and the obtaining of syrups (fructose and flavored), panela, jams, tomato puree, sugar cane syrup and vinegar, Yordan Chavez Roque, director of the center, told Cuban News Agency (ACN) exclusively.
He also said that the entity not only surpassed the 15, 000 metric tons (t) of white sugar, but was the first in the province and the second in the country to reach the efficiency indexes planned without consuming oil, since it uses energy generated by biomass from the collection of straw and bagasse.
For her part, Alicia Nodal Rodríguez, UEB's main investor, is currently projecting a large-scale expansion of the industrial complex which aims to increase vinegar yields from 1,090 to more than 5,000 liters per month, by adding four new tanks for temporary storage.
Glucose deliveries, she explained, will be increased from 650 to 1,000 tons per year, in accordance with the agreements established to replace imports, among which the five-year-old contract with the sorbitol plant, attached to the Ignacio Agramonte plant in Camagüey (central province of Cuba), for the generation of toothpaste for domestic consumption in the country, will be highlighted.
Chavez Roque also emphasized that, in line with the objectives of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development, the machinery is subjected to adequate monitoring of environmental impact, and later the company would work without any need for fossil fuels, as it will have renewable energy provided by a boiler with a capacity for six tons of steam.
Set at 21.8 million pesos following the 2019 visit of AzCuba Group president Julio Andres Garcia Perez, the process of technological reconversion and total modernization of UEB should be completed by 2030.
