Tourism activity in eastern Cuba complies with health protocols for travelers

SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Jun 17 (ACN) Due to the current epidemiological situation in Cuba and around the world, the Delegation of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) in the province of Santiago de Cuba strives to comply with the new sanitary measures implemented as of June 5 for inbound travelers.

MINTUR’s local marketing specialist Jorge Carlos Calles Gonzalez told ACN that every tourist is required to both submit a negative PCR test result done 72 hours before the trip and certified by laboratories in their country and be tested again upon arrival at the Antonio Maceo International Airport.

Individual tourists, he explained, are taken to one of the hotels designated for isolation, where they go through another PCR test, the result of which is ready in 24 hours. As they wait for it, the tourist must remain in the room.

“Depending on the results, they can proceed with their original travel plan or else transferred to a facility fitted out as a care center for COVID-19 carriers,” he said. “The use of face masks is mandatory throughout.”

Given the rise in the number of imported cases of COVID-19 infection and the fact that new, more contagious strains are appearing, the new measures also apply to Cuban travelers who live abroad or in the Island.

Yudith Marrero, a quality specialist, mentioned some of those measures: more demanding sanitary and safety requirements, around-the-clock medical care, use of face masks during transfers and wherever needed, increased hand hygiene, and a stricter enforcement of social distancing regulations. There are also more restrictions regarding the presence in the facility of workers with respiratory symptoms, daily body temperature measurements, and reinforced disinfection procedures in common areas.

Clinical and epidemiological surveillance, conducted by doctors, nurses and epidemiologists, remains active all along.
