HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 20 (ACN) Organized by Timbalaye, international promoter of Cuban culture, the 16th International Festival “Route of the Rumba” reached a number of communities in this city by the hand of its local development project Viviendo en los barrios [Living in the neighborhoods].
Tuesday’s events included books presentations, street performers’ parades, and popular dance contests, as well as the awarding of distinctions to outstanding to cultural promoters, neighborhood leaders of socio-cultural projects and community artists.
Also featured in the program was a master class given by Maestro Domingo Pau, first dancer, specialized teacher and choreographer of the Okantomí troupe, and exhibitions of Yoruba costumes and folk dances.
Designed to salute Timbalaye’s 25th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the UNESCO Routes of the Enslaved Peoples, and the National Councils and Houses of Saints (Ilé Ocha), the Festival will extend to other provinces until its end in Havana on August 31.
