HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 20 (ACN) Rigoberto López Pego’s posthumous motion picture El Mayor will be screened today at the Chaplin Theater in Havana as part of the Cuban Film Institute’s tribute to National Culture Day.
El Mayor is an action film inspired by the life of one of the great political and military leaders of the Cuban war for independence, Major General Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz (1841-1873), who was notable for his loyalty to the revolution and to his comrades-in-arms and whose personality and deeds played a significant role in the formation of the Cuban nation, according to the synopsis.
Luciano Castillo, director of the Cuban Film Library, remarked that filmmaker Rigoberto López Pego, who also scriptwrote the movie, died in January 2019, before its release.
Cast in the part of Major Agramonte is the young actor Daniel Romero, who stars opposite Claudia Tomás, Rafael Lahera and Ulyk Anello, with Aramís Delgado in a cameo role.
El Mayor is expected to be presented again to general audiences soon, as cultural centers nationwide reopen their doors after the COVID-19 lockdown.
ICAIC will also feature a number of recent films and audiovisual materials as part of the Cuban culture day celebrations.
