The First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party, Army General Raul Castro received on Thursday at Havana's Jose Marti International Airport, the President of the Council of Ministers, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez who returned from an official visit to Venezuela.

Specialized crews of the Union of Cuban Railroads are working on the evaluation and gradual solution to the interruptions in the railways in the provinces of Matanzas, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Sancti Spiritus, Ciego de Avila and Camagüey, that were consequence of the heavy rains in those places, the Union of Cuban Railroads reported today in a press release.

After concluding the work of the Special Session of the National Assembly of People's Power next Saturday, the deputies will meet on Sunday, May 3, in the plenary session of the Havana´s Conventions Center as part of their preparation for the best performance of their duties.

Although the recent rains in the capital did not cause as much damage as in other territories in the west and center of the country, they did have an impact on the deteriorated housing fund, with more than 100 partial collapses reported.

Over 24 thousand people remain evacuated in Villa Clara province, mainly in homes of family members, friends and evacuation centers due to the persistent rains in their residential areas.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel held a video conference on Tuesday with authorities of the Government and the Party of the central Cuban provinces, significantly affected by the heavy rains and floods caused by the subtropical storm Alberto.

Members of the Union of Informaticians of Cuba (UIC) in the province of Camagüey are developing projects that focus on e-government, one of the main objectives of the computerization strategy in the territory.

As a result of the intense rains left by the subtropical storm Alberto, in the afternoon hours and without damage to human lives, the bridge that connects the town of Zaza del Medio with Santi Spiritus city collapsed due to the strength of the water from the Zaza River.
