HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 15 (ACN) Cuban women's volleyball team will fight for fifth place overall after defeating Paraguay 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-19) during the consolation round of the 2nd Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay.
Based on their powerful attacks and serves, as well as their defense at the net, Norka Latamblet's team once again dominated the home team in a contest at the Cop Arena Sports Center.
Opposite Yalain de la Peña led the Caribbean team with 17 points, followed by Whitney James and Claudia Tarin with 10 and nine, respectively, while Ruth Peralta stood out for the defeated team with 12 points.
The victory allowed the Cubans to advance to the fifth-place playoff race, where they will face Costa Rica this Friday, which also made a grand entrance this week.
Cuba, in its road through the qualifying and knockout stages, fell 3-0 in its debut against Argentina and then earned a pair of equal-score wins against Costa Rica and Paraguay.
It subsequently lost in a crucial match against the Dominican Republic, effectively eliminating it from the podium.
