International organizations condemn US new executive order against Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 2 (ACN) Numerous organizations in different regions of the world reaffirmed their support for Cuba in defense of its sovereignty and national security, in response to the recent executive order from the United States government, and agreed that the island is a symbol of solidarity and anti-imperialist resistance, reported the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cubaminrex.

The Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity, in a message addressed to its Cuban chapter, called President Donald Trump's accusations that Cuba is an unusual and extraordinary threat false, and stated that the measure constitutes a direct aggression against all the people residing on the island and their families abroad.

The Secretariat of the Communist Party of Labor expressed its rejection of the U.S. measure, which it considered an attempt to choke, through hunger and lack of energy, a people who have decided to be masters of their own destiny.

From Guatemala, the Coordinating Committee for Solidarity with Cuba expressed its unequivocal condemnation of the executive order.

In El Salvador, the Salvadoran Movement of Solidarity with Cuba denounced the measure as seeking to create disillusionment and discontent among Cubans, echoing the dictates of Under Secretary Lester Mallory's 1960 memorandum.

The Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front and Salvadoran social organizations concurred in rejecting the escalation of the economic blockade against the island.

Mexico also joined in the expressions of solidarity.

The Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, the Confederation of Workers and Unions of Mexico, the Coalition of Democratic Urban and Rural Organizations, and the Jose Marti Association of Cuban Residents in Mexico, among others, denounced the new decision as a continuation of the economic war waged against Cuba for more than six decades.

From Europe, the ARLAC Association, the Socialist and Democratic Group of the European Parliament, and the Cuban Ardor Association condemned the policy of the U.S. administration. In the United States, political figures such as Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Chuy García, along with solidarity organizations like the Communist Party USA,

The People’s Forum, and the peace movement CODEPINK, rejected the measure, deeming it contrary to international law.

The statements agreed that the real threat is not Cuba, but rather Washington’s aggressive policy and, in particular, the Trump administration’s agenda toward the Caribbean nation.
