Project Cuba Soberana denounced new US sanctions

HAVANA, Cuba, February 2 (ACN) The Cuba Soberana Humanitarian Project, based in Brussels, Belgium, denounced the immediate impact of U.S. sanctions that attempt to limit the island's access to fuel, energy, and essential goods, with direct consequences for the Cuban population, reported the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cubaminrex.

Due to its importance, Cuban News Agency reproduces the text in its entirety.

Statement of the Cuba Soberana Humanitarian Project

TO THE INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC OPINION

Cuba Soberana Humanitarian Project denounces the serious and immediate humanitarian impact of the sanctions that block Cuba's access to fuel, energy, and essential goods, along with the penalization of third countries that attempt to supply them.

The result is direct and foreseeable human harm that falls upon the civilian population and a sovereign people.

Fuel and energy shortages compromise the operation of hospitals, emergency services, water systems, public transportation, food production and distribution, and the preservation of medicines, generating real shortages and a deterioration of vital services in the daily lives of the population.

In practice, these measures transform economic pressure into collective punishment, contrary to humanitarian principles and basic rights such as health, food, and human dignity.

From a humanitarian perspective, no policy is justifiable when its direct consequence is the collective punishment of a people.

Access to energy and basic supplies cannot be used as tools of pressure when their absence jeopardizes the lives and well-being of millions of people.

Sanctions hinder humanitarian aid and legitimate cooperation, exacerbating civilian suffering and reducing the capacity for solidarity-based responses aimed at alleviating it.

Therefore, we urgently call upon international public opinion, the media, humanitarian organizations, and governments to highlight the human impact of these sanctions and demand their immediate review, given the harm they cause to the civilian population.

We believe in dialogue as a way to resolve conflicts between nations and we defend the right of the Cuban people to live without measures that deepen civilian suffering or hinder humanitarian cooperation.

Sincerely,

Soberana Cuba Humanitarian Project

Brussels, Belgium
