HAVANA, Cuba, January 8 (ACN) As a demonstration of solidarity with the people of Venezuela, who suffered an imperialist aggression on January 3, young people and residents of the capital city will reenact today the arrival of the Freedom Caravan in Havana, 67 years after the event.
The Caravan will enter the province through the municipality of Cotorro and end its journey at Ciudad Escolar Libertad, formerly the Columbia Military Barracks, just as the procession led by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz did on January 8, 1959.
This year, the event will have additional motivations, namely to show Cuba's solidarity with the Venezuelan people, who suffered the attack to and kidnapping of their president by U.S. soldiers, to honor the 32 Cubans who died in that country in the line of duty, and to commemorate the centennial of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution.
The caravanistas will make some stops along the route, precisely where the original Caravan did back then, with onsite rallies of revolutionary reaffirmation with the participation of the local population.
This tradition honors each year the protagonists of that historic event, which was key to the consolidation of revolutionary power after the triumph of January 1, 1959.
