In 2026, more united than ever!: Díaz-Canel called

HAVANA, Cuba, January 2 (ACN) Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, on the 67th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, called for, on X: May 2026, the Centennial Year of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, find us fighting and more united than ever! Long live the Cuban Revolution!

Last December 18, at the closing session of the National Assembly of People's Power, the President proposed and it was approved to name 2026 as the “Centennial Year of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz,” in homage to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution and as a reaffirmation of the unity of his ideas within the Revolution.

It would not have been possible to get this far without trusting in our history, and without the strong and clear conviction that arose from that meeting between the two brothers on December 18, 1956, in Cinco Palmas. Today we are also certain that this time we will win the war!, Díaz-Canel declared with the proposal.

In his remarks, he affirmed that Cubans today are conquerors of the impossible and encouraged everyone to fight and be more united than ever in 2026, the Centennial Year of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.

On January 1, 1959, dictator Fulgencio Batista fled the country, and in a last-minute maneuver, supported by the United States government, General Eulogio Cantillo attempted to establish a civilian-military junta.

While this was happening, Fidel Castro, at the head of the Rebel Army, ordered the garrison of Santiago de Cuba to surrender and called for a general strike, which received massive support throughout the country, thus ensuring the victory of the Revolution.

Once in power, the revolutionary government began dismantling the neocolonial political system, disbanding repressive bodies, guaranteeing citizens the full exercise of their rights, cleaning up the public administration, and confiscating embezzled assets.
