HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, highlighted the exceptional nature of relations between Cuba and Vietnam during the commemorative ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of official ties between the two nations.
During the ceremony, held in the presence of Vietnamese authorities led by President Luong Cuong, Diaz-Canel emphasized that bilateral ties have overcome time and have become a benchmark of friendship and cooperation in contexts of great challenges for peace.
"This relationship transcends formalities and protocols and is based on deep traditions and identities, forged since the days when the Cuban Solidarity Committee denounced the crimes of imperialism in Vietnam," the president said.
The head of state recalled the historic words of Fidel Castro, who stated that Cuba was willing to give its own blood for Vietnam.
He also emphasized that today, ties are strengthened in multiple fields: political parties, parliamentary bodies, the judiciary, defense and security, as well as in labor, youth, and women's organizations.
In his speech, Diaz-Canel mentioned as a significant event the official visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and then-Vietnamese President To Lam to Havana in 2024.
This visit outlined new economic and cooperation projects in strategic sectors, with a focus on sustainability and shared benefits.
Vietnam is currently positioned as Asia's leading investment partner in Cuba, with initiatives in food production, basic goods, biotechnology, and renewable energy.
The president reaffirmed the Caribbean nation's commitment to providing a favorable environment for Vietnamese entrepreneurs.
He also expressed his gratitude for Vietnam's support in the fight against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, and for its rejection of Cuba's inclusion on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Likewise, the Cuban President mentioned with special gratitude the recent Vietnamese grassroots campaign that raised more than $14 million in just 30 hours to support the Cuban people, as well as spontaneous donations such as the six tons of rice donated by a family in Ho Chi Minh City.
"Cuba and Vietnam united will prevail," the president concluded, reaffirming the validity of a relationship that, beyond protocols, is sustained by shared values of independence, social justice, and international solidarity.
