Manuel Marrero Cruz, Cuban PM, chaired the meeting, which examined population growth, early childhood centers, and actions to address population growth in the eastern province of Granma.Reinol Garcia Moreiro, Deputy Minister of Public Health, declared that the birth rate is declining.
He satated that 148 of Cuba's 168 municipalities have maternity homes. GarcIa Moreiro emphasized the need for local solutions for pregnant women.
Cuban premier noted that infant mortality varies among territories, urgingsystematic work to reduce this indicator.
For her part, Cira Piñeiro Alonso, first deputy minister of education, indicated that problems persist in daycare centers.Piñeiro Alonso specified that some daycare centers have low enrollment.
Marrero Cruz ordered the coordination of these institutions with existing day care centers to optimize resources.
The governor of Granma, Yanetsy Terry Gutierrez, reported high adolescent fertility in the province.
Ines Maria Chapman Waugh, deputy prime minister, called for comprehensive attention to gender-based violence in Granma.
In closing, Marrero Cruz demanded a review of procedures for people with homelessness: "It's not about confronting, but about helping," she declared.
