HAVANA, Cuba, July 30 (ACN) Published the Party for Socialism and Liberation, the book Love is the Law: Cuba´s queer rights´ revolution was presented at the Casa de la Amistad in Havana as an expression of solidarity with the island, the just causes around the world, and LGBTQ+ persons.
The 53rd "Venceremos" Brigade from the US, made up this year by members of the LGBTQ+ community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, as well as gender-neutral, non-binary, and unsure individuals), attended the presentation.
The book collects materials (in English) prepared by various authors on the approval of a Family Code in the island that grants more rights to all Cubans.
Gregory Williams, the book's editor, called the brigade members' presence an achievement, considering the tightening of the U.S. blockade and the increasing repression of queer people (who reject the binary classification of male-female) and trans people in the United States, and denounced that, in his own country, the US government viciously attacks workers and oppressed people, including the LGBTQ+ community and the immigrants, so the fight for the rights of queer and trans people becomes a broader battle against capitalism.
He also demanded the end of the US blockade and that Cuba be removed from the spurious list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, attended the event, in which Mariela Castro, director of the National Center for Sex Education, spoke about the educational work and the progress made regarding the rights of the Cuban LGBTQ+ community as part of the Revolution's commitment to social justice.
