Climate Change Caribbean Community awards Cuban Institute of Meteorology

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 27 (ACN) Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) received one of the awards presented by the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center, (CCCCC), at a gala commemorating its 20 years of foundation at its headquarters in Belmopan, Belize.

Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX by its Spanish acronym) reported that Maria Caridad Balaguer Labrada, Cuban ambassador to the Central American country, received the award from PhD. Colin Young, Executive Director of the institution, in "recognition of their strong collaboration and joint efforts to advance CCCCC's mission of strengthening climate resilience in the Caribbean."

Cooperation between ISMET and CCCCC dates back more than 18 years, including participation in climate modeling in the Caribbean, which focuses on understanding and projecting the impacts of climate change in the region.
The models help assess vulnerabilities and inform adaptation strategies, MINREX stated.

The awards ceremony was presided over by Prime Minister John Briceño, who was accompanied by his counterpart from Saint Lucia, Philip J. Pierre, in his capacity as Chair of the Caribbean Community's Quasi-Cabinet on Sustainable Development.

Representatives from several Caribbean islands and regional agencies and institutions, government authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, and founding and current members of the CCCCC, were also present at the awarding ceremony.

Over the past 20 years, the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre has provided valuable scientific guidance to foster regional collaboration and mobilize crucial resources to enhance the region's climate resilience.
