HAVANA, Cuba, May 27 (ACN) The National Day of Azerbaijan, on the 107th anniversary of its founding, was celebrated on Monday by Cubans and Azerbaijanis with the commitment to deepen brotherhood and cooperation ties that arose long before the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992.
In the university classrooms of Baku, generations of young Cubans found a home during the Soviet era, recalled Noemi Rabaza Fernandez, first vice president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym), the venue of the celebration.
Both countries have shown their willingness to promote economic and commercial ties in areas such as medical-pharmaceutical-scientific, tourism, education, sports and culture, she pointed out.*
She highlighted that Cuban doctors worked alongside their Azeri colleagues during the COVID-19 pandemic, managing to save lives, “a gesture that we know the people and the government of Azerbaijan will never forget.”
Rabaza Fernandez reaffirmed the intention to strengthen friendship and collaboration, thanking the Caucasus nation for its support to Cuba against the policy of economic choking imposed by the United States for more than 60 years.
Azeri Ambassador Ruslan Rzayev described the bilateral relations as excellent, expressed interest in exploring new areas to make further progress in economic, commercial and scientific cooperation and hoped to consolidate the traditional friendly ties.
