MATANZAS, Cuba, Feb 26 (ACN) The Jovellanos II photovoltaic power station, the first of three of its kind in the province of Matanzas scheduled to come into operation this year, is expected to link up with the National Power Grid on March 27.
According to its technical manager Daniel Rivas Ramos, work is under way to finish the DC wiring and the automation and communication systems, among others also pending trials to make timely corrections.
Jovellanos II, one of the 55 solar farms to be works of its kind that are expected to be up and running before the end of the year, reveals the Cuban state's will to alleviate the current tense situation by producing electricity, diversifying energy sources, and reducing the consumption of fossil fuels.
Official figures provided by the provincial electricity enterprise have it that every year the farm will generate nearly 32 GW/h, save more than 8,300 tons of fuel, and prevent the emission of 28,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Cuba’s energy transition strategy envisages the installation of 92 solar farms by 2028, which will provide more than 2,000 MW to meet demand and help reduce annoying power outages.
