HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 18 (ACN) Cuba and Bolivia signed an inter-institutional collaboration agreement to produce radiopharmaceuticals and biotechnological components against cancer, combining the experience of the Cuban Isotope Center (Centis) with the capabilities of the Bolivian Nuclear Energy Agency (ABEN).
As reported by the Cuban Foreign Ministry on its website, Rene Leyva, director of the Centis, highlighted that the alliance unites three decades of Cuban experience with Bolivian advances in nuclear infrastructure, such as the El Alto Cyclotron Complex, operational as of 2023.
Hortensia Jimenez, director of ABEN, emphasized that the agreement will allow the development of theranostics (techniques that integrate diagnosis and treatment) and reduce dependence on imports.
Cuban ambassador to Bolivia, Elba Rosa Perez, highlighted that the agreement will benefit both countries and strengthen regional scientific cooperation.
