
Havana, Feb 11 (ACN) With deep sorrow we received the news about the passing of one of the best friends of the Cuban Revolution, his excellency, Doctor Sam Nujoma, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel wrote on the condolence book at the Namibian embassy in Havana.
On behalf of the Cuban government and people, Diaz-Canel, also First Secretary of Cuba’s Communist Party, extended the Namibian people and government the heartfelt condolences for the death of the founding father and first president of Namibia, according to a message of the Cuban Presidency on X.
“We will always treasure in a special place his constant gestures of respect, friendship and affection for Cuba, and his endearing friendship towards our Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and Army General Raul Castro Ruz,” Diaz-Canel stressed.
Sam Nujoma, first president of Namibia, died at 95 on February 9th.
In 1960, Nujoma became one of the founders of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) and also of the national liberation movement, which led the country to its independence from the South African racist regime in 1990. Nujoma was Namibian president from 1990 to 2005.
