SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Feb 4 (ACN) Santiago de Cuba, the second most important city in the country, consolidates as a tourist destination in order to contribute to economic development at local and national level and, to this end, there have been aesthetic and safety improvements aligned with current trends and intended to provide better services, according to Claudia Marina Álvarez, a marketing specialist of the local office of the Ministry of Tourism.
“As a city that hosts various events every year, our office promotes the city at international level and launches digital marketing campaigns to highlight the historical, patrimonial and natural wealth of this province to arouse the interest of visitors from all over the world”, she said. “We have thus designed new tourist routes linked to both the archaeological landscape of the first coffee plantations in the southeast of the country and the underwater cultural heritage, among other assets”.
The Morro Castle, the Moncada Barracks, the Bodeguita del Medio, the Céspedes Park, the Holy Metropolitan Basilica and Cathedral, the Emilio Bacardí Moreau Museum, La Caridad terrazas and the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity stand among the main attractions appreciated by domestic and foreign tourists.
The city of Santiago de Cuba, which will soon celebrate its 510th anniversary, is a historical, architectural and urbanistic reference underpinned by the age of its buildings and its artistic and landscape wealth, as well as by the level of conservation and authenticity of its intangible heritage.
