SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) The Mayakovsky Public Library and the A. S. Pushkin Special Central Library for Children in St. Petersburg signed today collaboration agreements with the Provincial Library of the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, Elvira Cape.
Anton Alexandrov, vice president of the Culture Committee of the Russian city, and Yoana Ponce Ruiz, director of the Cuban institution, were in charge of signing the documents that will benefit both cities through the exchange of books, knowledge and experiences.
St. Petersburg is the second capital of Russia, there are excellent theaters, museums, but our more than 200 libraries are a source of pride, and by signing these memorandums we welcome the Elvira Cape in that extended family, Alexandrov said.
Raulicer Hierrezuelo, director of Culture in the eastern Cuban territory, pointed out the vast wealth that Santiago de Cuba holds, a site with the privilege of having the first museum and public library in the Caribbean nation.
He thanked the authorities of St. Petersburg, especially those related to culture, for choosing Santiago de Cuba as part of a broad international collaboration project aimed at protecting the documentary heritage.
The virtual exhibition dedicated to the 225th anniversary of the birth of Aleksandr Sergeyevich Pushkin, Russian poet, playwright and novelist of the Romantic movement, founder of the modern literature of that country, was also opened at the institution.
The event took place within the framework of the "St. Petersburg Days in Havana and Santiago de Cuba", when the latter city and that of the European nation celebrate 50 years of friendship and cooperation.
