
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) Cuba reaffirmed today its commitment to the struggle for the elimination of violence against women.
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, reiterated the country's conviction not to allow any manifestation of discrimination and to promote their advancement in all areas.
On the same social network, Teresa Amarelle Boue, secretary general of the Cuban Women's Federation, insisted on the importance of raising awareness and strengthening action protocols to put an end to violence against women.
These are not figures, they are lives lost, said the Cuban official.
On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Cuba ratifies its commitment to gender equity, female empowerment and the eradication of all forms of violence and discrimination against women and girls, the foreign ministry stated.
The date marks the beginning of the UN Unite Campaign, 16 days of activism (Nov. 25-Dec. 10) that conclude coinciding with International Human Rights Day.
This year, the 2024 theme is "Every 10 minutes a woman is murdered. #ThereIsNoExcuse. UNiTE to end violence against women" and aims to mobilize all members of society in the face of an alarming escalation of violence against women, as well as to revitalize commitments and demand accountability and concrete action from decision-makers.
During 2023, some 51,100 women and girls worldwide died at the hands of their partners or other family members.
