Second school of regional student organization opens in Havana



HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) In commemoration of the eighth anniversary of the death of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruiz, the Second School of the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Organization of Students (Oclae by its Spanish acronym) was opened today at the Jose Marti Memorial.

Miguel Angel Machado Rojas, president of the Oclae, highlighted in his opening remarks that 58 years have passed since the creation of this Fidel project which is still more alive than ever.

He emphasized that the students of Latin America and the Caribbean defend public, free and quality education with the same strength with which they fight for the sovereignty of the people.

He stressed that the leaders of 11 countries and 20 organizations attending this Second School ratify that, while the US government intends to choke Cuba, Cuba's Revolution is still standing.

In statements to the press, the president of the Oclae indicated that this second edition will be held in several places, being the University of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) "Ñico Lopez" one of the main venues.

Machado Rojas added that this meeting will make possible the integration of the region's young people on issues such as solidarity, anti-imperialism, training and political communication.

Amanda Harumi, Oclae executive secretary for the Southern Cone, thanked Cuba for teaching Latin American youth that a fair political project for the people is possible.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ernesto Santiesteban Velazquez, head of the Office of Attention to the Young Communist League (UJC by its Spanish acronym) and the mass organizations of the Central Committee of the PCC; Meyvis Estevez Echevarria, first secretary of the National Committee of the UJC; Naima Trujillo Barreto, Jose Angel Portal Miranda, Public, Walter Baluja Garcia, ministers of Education, Health and Higher Education, respectively, among other delegates of the Oclae.

The Latin American and Caribbean Continental Organization of Students, since its foundation in 1966, fights for the access of Latin American youth to a quality education and at the same time for them to have the tools to defend their rights.
