Díaz-Canel: “Today's victory will be resounding”

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 30 (ACN) In a post on X, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel highlighted the UN General Assembly’s rejection of the U.S. blockade and assured that the upcoming vote will give Cuba a resounding victory.

In his message, the president thanked the more than 30 speakers who “denounced the stifling U.S. Cuba policy and the inclusion of the island in the false and degrading list of state sponsors of terrorism”.

The UNGA will vote today on the draft resolution on the need to put an end to Washington's blockade, which between March 2023 and February 2024 caused damages to the island amounting to more than USD 5 billion.

Since 1992, when the said document was first submitted, the international community has overwhelmingly supported Cuba’s demand to end this siege, deemed an act of genocide according to the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

As of 2019, the Cuban authorities maintain, the United States reinforced the blockade to extreme levels and took measures to prevent the country from getting fuel supplies, increased harassment of commercial and financial transactions in third markets, and set out to threaten investors and commercial entities of other countries with the application of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act.
