HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 25 (ACN) Alberto Nuñez Betancourt, vice president of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), spoke at a working table of the ParlAméricas meeting, held in San Jose, Costa Rica.
At the event, which is held under the slogan Migration in a context of social and environmental challenges, the Cuban deputy noted that the Caribbean nation supports the contents of the Global Compact on Migration, first and foremost, the maxim that establishes managing this global phenomenon in a safe, regular and orderly manner.
According to information published on the ANPP website, Nunez Betancourt recalled that for almost 60 years there has been the Cuban Adjustment Act, which encourages the opposite, and privileges Cuban migrants who manage to enter U.S. territory.
He added that Cuban parliamentarians approved last July a new Migration Law and pointed out that this is an issue to which the legislative body is making every effort.
Finally, he ratified that Cuba follows a policy of zero tolerance with the criminal practice of human trafficking.
More than 50 parliamentarians from 18 countries of the continent are participating in the capital of Costa Rica on October 23, 24 and 25 in the hemispheric interparliamentary meeting, organized by the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica, ParlAméricas and the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean (FOPREL).
