HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 16 (ACN) On the occasion of World Food Day, celebrated every year worldwide on October 16, and with a view to promoting healthy eating habits, the World Food Program (WFP) officially presented its visual arts contests in Cuba.
Etienne Labande, representative of this organization in the island, remarked that food and nutrition security is the WFP’s goal and arts a vehicle to convey this message to people. In this respect, he referred to actions currently under way worldwide to increase public awareness of good food practices, and thanked Cuban institutions for their collaboration to this end.
Daneisy García, president of the National Visual Arts Council (CNAV), highlighted the intention of exhibiting the impressive art collection that the WFP keeps in Cuba.
Announcements included the CNAV’s contests “WFP in Action” for children and teenagers in the 5 to 18 age group and “Looks that Feed: Art for the Conscience” for adults engaged in painting, sculpture and engraving, as well as the first WFP Cuba Creative Photography Contest “Looks that Feed: Photographing Food Security” for people over 18 who live in Cuba.
Devoted to strengthening agricultural value chains to make them more sustainable, promoting healthy diets and contributing to food security in emergency situations, the WFP has cooperated with Cuban authorities for more than 60 years in these and other issues, including gender equity, services for rural youth, and local development projects.
