HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 3 (ACN) Another sign of the traditional solidarity between Cuba and Vietnam was the celebration here of the 79th anniversary of the independence of the Indochinese nation and the 55th anniversary of the political testament of leader Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969).
Fernando Gonzalez Llort, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym), recalled that the beloved Uncle Ho devoted his strength and immense wisdom to the struggle for reunification and independence, proclaimed on September 2, 1945.
Cuba was the first country in the continent to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam to whose strengthening contributed to the creation in 1963 of the Committee of Solidarity with South Vietnam chaired by Heroine Melba Hernandez, he said.
He emphasized that the political will of President Ho Chi Minh will always be a guide for the Vietnamese towards the future, “Vietnam will continue its struggle for the construction of a more modern, developed, prosperous and beautiful nation”.
He evoked Fidel's 1973 visit to liberated areas of South Vietnam as “a sign of the special and traditional ties between Vietnam and Cuba, examples of solidarity, collaboration, transparency and mutual trust”.
In Havana's Ho Chi Minh Park, Vietnamese Ambassador Le Quang Long recalled Fidel's solidarity in difficult times when he said “For Vietnam we are ready to give even our own blood” and “We must help build the Vietnam ten times more beautiful than the one Ho Chi Minh spoke of”.
The diplomat expressed his support for the deepening of solidarity and its continuity, thanking the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association, members of the community, representatives of mass organizations and institutions, students and pioneers for attending the event.
