According to a press release, the OEI is the Ibero-American organization with the largest territorial presence with 23 member states and 19 national offices throughout the region, as well as a headquarters in Madrid, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Dominican Republic and Uruguay.

Under the slogan "We make cooperation happen", the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture is the first intergovernmental organization for South-South cooperation in Ibero-America.

It has also contributed to the significant reduction of illiteracy in Ibero-America, with an average of more than 12 million direct beneficiaries in the last five years.
