SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Mar 25 (ACN) After the impact of the rains and strong winds occurred this weekend in the central-northern part of the country, the authorities of the central province of Villa Clara are checking damages and outlining strategies for a quick and timely recovery, especially when more than 320 power outages are still reported.
In a tour of the most affected areas led by the first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the territory, Osnay Miguel Colina Rodriguez, and the vice governor Milaxy Yanet Sanchez Armas, accumulated rainfall of more than 50 millimeters was confirmed in Sagua la Grande, Quemado de Güines, Remedios and Corralillo, with wind gusts between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour.
Damaged houses have been reported, of which two total collapses stand out, as well as several breakdowns in primary circuits, Noel Chinea Perez, coordinator of programs and objectives of the provincial government, told the press.
Likewise, high tension cables were found to have fallen to the ground, and intense work is being carried out to reestablish electric services in mountain areas.
The provincial capital city did not suffer the impact of the rains either, according to its highest authorities in a videoconference held on Sunday with the different bodies involved in the recovery actions, such as the Ministry of Public Health, the Civil Defense, the Electric Union and the Cuban Telecommunications Company.
Sanchez Armas assured that there is a reserve of construction materials available for the most urgent cases, and in some municipalities solutions are already being offered with locally produced resources.
