HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 30 (ACN) The government commission for the attention to demographic dynamics recognized the insufficient relationship between the socio-demographic characteristics of the population and the strategies of territorial, local and community development, according to the website of the Presidency.
The meeting, chaired by Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Republic, also ratified the impact of demographic dynamics in all spheres of the country's economic and social life.
The report said that specialists from the Center for Demographic Studies of the University of Havana reported on an evaluation carried out in 33 municipalities throughout the country.
Matilde Molina Cintra, deputy director of that institution, pointed out that there is progress in the operation of the Groups of Attention to Demographic Dynamics, however, there are still missing fundamental aspects such as the adequate incorporation of the population approach and a development in the designed actions.
She also pointed out that there are difficulties in the work of the Demographic Observatories, although this is not the same in all the territories.
The meeting stressed the urgency of taking a deep and comprehensive look at issues such as adolescent fertility (which is increasing in almost all the territories), care for the elderly and labor resources, issues that need to be addressed by governors, mayors and managers at all levels.
Regarding the elderly, it was pointed out that, along with aging, there is a greater concentration of the elderly population over 85 years of age, a very fragile stage, a scenario in which it is necessary to raise as much as possible the quality of services and comprehensive care for this population, with particular emphasis on homes for the elderly, people living alone and wanderers, among others.
In the report presented during the meeting, it was recommended to improve the implementation of the multiple programs and policies approved that are associated with the demographic dynamics in order to avoid duplication of actions and facilitate the work from the base, since they involve in more than one occasion the same actors of a province and municipality.
Another issue of analysis in the exchange was the update on the Maternal and Child Care Program and the fulfillment of intersectoriality actions.
