Havana, Jan 25 (ACN) The music album Santiago-Brooklyn-Santiago, launched during the ongoing Havana Jazz Plaza Festival by the music labels EGREM and Zoho Music, works as a bridge to strengthen links of friendship between renowned pianists Marcos Fernandez, from Santiago and Arturo O’Farril, from New York.
Fernandez, from the Santiago Big Band and O’ Farril from the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra came together thanks to their passion for music in 2002, and they implemented the joint project of the mixed album last year.
Twelve Jazz popular tunes which reflect the music origins of both artists from Cuba and the United States. The selection includes “Almendra, by Abelardo Valdes; Bilongo, by Guillermo Rodriguez; Ay Mama Ines, by Eliseo Grenet; El Manisero, by Moises Simons; Cha, by Stephen Bernstein; Asia Minor, by Roger King Mozian; Crazy City… but I love it, by Chico O’ Farril; Iron Jungle, by Papo Vazquez and Pitbull Mambo, by O’ Farril.
Also included in the album is Dialog, a song by Marcos, and Santiago-Brooklyn-Santiago co-authored by both musicians.
The album Santiago-Brooklyn-Santiago represents a two-way trip allowing not only to strengthen relations between to kings of Jazz, but also between to different ways of playing Jazz.
The initiative also brings closer the two music labels: Cuba’s Music Recordings and Editions Company and Zoho Music, specialized in Latin Jazz.
