Havana, Dec 13 (ACN) Cuban Minister for Science, Technology and the Environment Elba Rosa Perez reaffirmed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the island’s firm commitment to the climate regime, in tune with the Nationally Determined Contribution—country efforts to reduce national emissions and adapt to the impact of climate change.
In her remarks at the closing session of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 28), the Cuban government official addressed the necessity of equity and of changing the current unfair financial architecture and having developed nations to honor their compromises relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The COP 28 sessions wound up with the First Global Evaluation of the implementation of the Paris Accord, which calls to advance amidst current challenges, according to a message on the Cuban Presidency’s X account.
Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodriguez wrote on X on aspects relevant to the Paris Accord stressing the need to urgently reduce greenhouse gas emissions through actions like the use of energy systems not based on fossil fuels, triple the use of renewable energies up to 2030 and progressively reduce carbon-based energy.
The diplomat stressed the presence of Cuba at the COP 28 particularly the participation of President Miguel Diaz-Canel during his recent visit to the Middle East representing the Group of 77 plus China.
