HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 20 (ACN) In commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and World Children's Day, a group of pioneers from different schools met today at the National Capitol of Cuba, in Havana, to discuss important issues about children in Cuba.
Danhiz Diaz Pereira, deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), exchanged with the students present about basic rights such as health, education and non-discrimination, as well as the fulfillment of these in the country.
For her part, Alejandra Trossero, representative of the United Nations Children's Fund ( UNICEF) in Cuba, described this space for debate as an open dialogue in pursuit of transformation and a fairer society.
Trossero spoke in favor of Palestinian children, who have suffered in recent months an outrage against their rights, and demanded peace in that Asian nation.
Lianet Pazo Cedeño, national president of the Jose Marti Pioneers Organization, acknowledged that listening to and sharing the concerns expressed in this meeting is beneficial, because it provides the relevant institutions and authorities with the necessary arguments to continue with this arduous work.
Aylin Alvarez Garcia, first secretary of the National Committee of the UJC, described this exercise as a self-analysis regarding the responsibility of society, as well as learning "how to become more daily and systematic in terms of children's rights".
The meeting was chaired by Ana Maria Mari Machado, vice-president of the ANPP; Arelys Santana Bello, president of the Commission of Attention to Youth, Childhood and Equal Rights of Women of the Assembly, and Keyla Estevez Garcia, director of the Center for Youth Studies.
